Whether it was the recent lockdown alcohol bans or simply good intentions to cut back and go healthier, consumers locally and abroad have been embracing no- and low-alcohol wines. Our Vinimark suppliers have joined the “party” and invested in quality (and tasty) lighter wines for this growing market. But what’s the low-down on these products?
In our latest Vinimark podcast episode, host Jono le Feuvre chats to Pieter-Niel Rossouw, head winemaker at Darling Cellars and Anton Swarts, Cape Wine Master and senior winemaker at Spier, to hear more from the experts on de-alcoholised and low-alcohol wines.
Both Rossouw and Swarts have hands-on experience of the processes behind making and developing these products, as Darling Cellars recently launched their DC De-Alcoholised range (including a Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Rosé) and Spier their 5.5% Chenin Blanc and Shiraz.
During the 24-minute episode, the winemakers provide a fascinating behind-the-scenes peek into making these wines – from vineyard selection and management to the de-alcoholising process using the spinning cone process.
